This weekend I was probably more domestic than I’ve ever been in my life (excluding cooking/baking endeavors).
On Saturday I decided to bite the bullet and clean out my closet because things had gotten to an embarrassing state. With my amazing friend Ashley in tow (hi!), we started by evaluating what was actually in there. Pulled out and sorted all shoes (and got rid of a few pairs), pulled out scarves, belts and hats (got rid of some more), purses (got rid of a LOT… my high school fashion sense was lacking…) and various knick-knacks that had piled up.
Once we knew what we needed, we headed to The Container Store (expensive but SO amazing and, for me, worth every penny) to find it! I lucked out with the sale they were having! 30% off everything elfa. So 6 shoe racks (found out that I have 53 pairs, sorry I’m not sorry), 2 handbag storage bins, 2 open bins, and one shelving unit (similar to this but with more, smaller drawers) later- and we were headed home to put it all together!
With a few minor assembly hiccups, we had it all together, stacked the shoe racks, filled the drawers with scarves and belts, organized the purses into everyday and special occasion, put my boots in a box, and hung my hats on the wall hooks! An unused bucket of flowers and a picture of the fam were the finishing touches. The picture really doesn’t do it justice. It looks great, and I feel great going into it!
So that night, instead of going out I started cleaning my room. Going into every little drawer and cleaning out the clutter. Sweeping the floor, dusting the table tops, rearranging accessories for a fresh feel. This continued into Sunday, where I decided to take on my bathroom storage, and linen closet. With a second trip to the Container Store (my new favorite store), this time with Kaitlin, we came away with two under bed boxes, one jumbo box for miscellaneous things, two modular drawers for toiletries in the linen closet, and an adorable acrylic makeup organizer!
I went through every. single. toiletry. I owned. And I am queen of toiletries. I love them and hoard them like a crazy person. It felt so cathartic to just get rid of it all though! Minus the medicine and the things I actually use on a weekly basis, it all went into the trash. I sorted my towels, sheets, hair things. It is amazing.
The only things I have yet to tackle are the filing drawers that have all my important (and I’m sure even more unimportant) papers, and to put the clothes in my closet that are off-season into the under bed boxes, for even a bit more room.
It was a serious undertaking, but SO incredibly worth it! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted and I love being in my room now! 5 bags of trash, 3 bags to goodwill, and one happy Emily :)
